Think back over the course of your life. Were there times that you experienced major points of illnesses that were life-changing, or that you are able to account various memories as a significant exclamation point relevant to your health crisis that you would prefer never to experience again? Perhaps, you consider yourself in average or above average health according to your daily habits. You try to live as healthy a lifestyle possible, yet every so many years, a health crisis such as appendicitis, hemorrhage, a strange virus, a miscarriage, etc. arises that seems to come out of nowhere. Why does this happen? After all, you brush your teeth more than twice a day, only occasionally indulge in fast food, your exercise routine is adequate. Yet, you subconsciously have noticed that Jane and John Doe, eat out constantly, smoke a couple of packs a day, never exercise, etc. So in all the years in which you have known them, why haven’t they ever experienced a health crisis?
For those that may be reading this that are new to astrology, please see my blogged article on Electional Astrology. In astrology, we all have 12 houses, or twelve sections of energy subjects within our psyches, and these subjects also describe the energies in which we are connected to; the universal energies that we are receiving at any given moment.
To demonstrate this energetic house activity on another level, I will use a scenario involving the 2nd/8th house axis:
The 2nd house describes our attitudes towards money or self-esteem. While this is an inherent part of our personality, we are
also under the influence of planetary transits to our 2ndhouse. Let’s say our natural 2nd house is connected with our tenth house
of career in good aspect according to our natal charts. This aspect explains why we may be naturals at making money and seem to have always been able to advance in our careers. So while, we understand our personalities and certain driven motivations, we may not understand why things may seem to go wrong. Usually when you have a steady source of energy in your life and it experiences a disruption it is due to a planetary transit involving that area of your chart. Let’s also say that Uranus is currently transiting our 2nd house which automatically opposes the 8th house of debt and joint resources. Here,
we find that sudden interruptions in our income can arise, which can cause our debt to mount. But how can we turn this situation around, if heavy planets are ruling disruptions? After all, didn’t God create the universe and put us in this predicament in the first place? Here is where astrology helps us to map out the best choices using our God-given free will. If you are able to look ahead and see a transit approaching, then you would know to batten the hatches on your finances and prepare for sudden upsets. So while you would feel the Uranus transit, you would still be better off than if you had not prepared at all.
Of course, there are other ways to direct the energy. Uranus is also the planet that rules electricity. To relieve some of the energy, you might somehow get yourself involved in a side job, which involved technology or electronics.Uranus is also a ruler of surprises, rebelliousness, groups of people and innovation. Finding innovative techniques to spur your income forward or invest in might contribute to absorbing the energy that would keep you from suffering complete financial displacement. So in directing the energy in advance, there are many avenues that you could take. However, if you find yourself currently in the midst of a planetary storm, (more than one transiting planet in heavy aspect) that seems to be taking hold of all that you have worked for, what can you do? You must try the best you can to bring balance to the house being affected and to the one it opposes, or in this case the 2nd house (your money) and 8th house (other people’s money). We could go a lot further in considering energy shifts for these two houses, but I only mean to use this as an example.
When we consider our health and the possibilities, we must first examine the natal chart to discover any predisposed energies present that can manifest as illness in our physical form. After all, some of us are born with disabilities. The natal chart will give tale of those situations. Let me add right here, that we are not in control (in this lifetime) of our physical bodies in the way that they were brought into this world. This energy present in our bodies at birth could be considered as genetics, or manifested as fate (what happens when other energies outweigh our own). Also, when we are children, we are not in control of many aspects that contribute to health; our genetics, our environment, our emotional well-being, or the contributions by our parents who
stabilize these energies. All of our interactions with other energies beyond our own describe the human condition. Yet, we are allowed the energy that we have been given beyond our lot, our karma, if you will, to blossom; to start a fire with the sparks we have been given.
Our natal chart describes these situations and also our nature of responding; a nature that received its first trial for profound growth in our first five years of life. So in having a look at the transits (outside energies) during our first five years, we understand the foundation for who we have become. After defining our natal chart and natural condition, we must understand that this snapshot resounds through our life, bringing the same subjects of opportunity (some called crisis) back to us again. As we grow older, we are allowed to move forward, challenging the energies and making choices that would mold them into better situations as we are learning spiritually here on Earth. After understanding the concepts of what we have been through and what we may
have to face, we need to look further into our life lessons and other incoming energies that will be affecting ourselves and our already defined predispositions, by examining our current and future transits.
In sleuthing our health by transits and their affects upon our natal charts, we began to discover a picture that is not
precise, but gives direction of what choices we may face in both directing the energy and in maintaining that energy so that it will be pointed in a prosperous directive outlet. Many times, if seeking better health, we will find that by directing the energy towards the benefit of others, it is happy to go that way. After all, the 6th and 12th houses of the zodiac that describe our health, mentally, spiritually and physically, also encompass the subjects of the work of our hands, our contributions to others- especially those who are ill or confined in some way. This is one of the miracles of the universe; that God would have us see outside of ourselves to spread health and wealth to others.
In balancing the energies of the 6th and 12th houses, we must first consider their two qualities: physical and spiritual. These two qualities are maintained by our first understanding their concepts: Spiritual Quality-our psyche in our spiritual connection to God and the universe, and Physical Quality- fueling our minds and acting out the intentions of the mind/ acknowledging our physical creation by God and it’s connection to the Universe. In these relations, you can see how manifestation of our actions combined with human condition takes place. When we are connected to God in seeking the truth, we understand how our energy impacts the universe and how outside energies, human and otherwise, affect our own. In the same way by understanding the mechanics of the universe in connection to the psyche, we can begin to understand that all of our thoughts affect our bodies. (Here is an outside reference on mind/body connection which the world of psychology is just accepting when diagnosing a patient. If you know anything about psychological models at all, then you understand how the bio-psychosocial model is confusing for the medical world who doesn’t understand the transfer of energies-we have a ways to go.) To understand our Physical and Spiritual qualities in our existence it might be help to have a visual.
Learning_______ God ________Knowledge
Actions: Work of the hands
Imagine the above in the form of the zodiac wheel. The dividing line is Knowledge, comprised of communication and higher
learning. It is defined by the 3rd and 9thhouse axis of the zodiac; crossing the 6th and 9th house axis of health/work and spirituality/psyche. Of course, we know there are extensions of these qualities, but these four qualities are the foundation of our human existence. You might recognize these concepts better here in the zodiac wheel or perhaps they are better understood as the four pillars surrounding the throne of God. You can view the construction of this physical model in countless ancient
symbols that describe a cross within a wheel. If you have your doubts, look in your cathedral for these symbols. Question the beginning of that symbol and take a good look at truth. The zodiac wheel, alive and well by other names, a model
for our universe, physicality and psyche, provides a map to our well-being with God being at the center. Some New Agers have left God (The Great Spirit, The Divine Force) out of this human model, and it is a shame. They have diminished their own truth.
Without acknowledging the model of complete existence, many people are content to stay within their own bodies, to exclude
their spiritual existence and to live fully within the world, concentrating only on the needs of themselves. Others believe in science, but cannot explain how spirituality plays a role in human existence. By understanding these sectors of health and wellness in our natal chart and by transit, we gain insight into the overall condition of our goals here in physical form and how we might be more constructive in our spiritual evolution here on earth. We begin to understand that by balancing the houses, we
complete a healthy state of awareness and mind/body maintenance. It is tricky, considering we must give more in some areas at given times with heavy transits. So, say that you know heavy energies are coming your way, how does this work?
Here are some pointers.
Understanding How to Balance Health Energies through the 6th and 12
If there are already previous health afflictions to the 6thhouse describing a disability, adding more focus to the opposite house, the twelfth house, will help greatly. You may choose to pray more often and spend earnest time with God. Also, the twelfth house describes humanitarian effort; selfless service. By focusing on others, the same energy that could cause you illness
will be used positively in helping others and miraculously, your body will not become the focus of this energy but rather your service to others. In the same way, if you are expecting heavy transits to the 12th house, rather than be confined in a
hospital, start volunteering at one and at the same time, do everything that you can to maintain your health. If you are already physically disabled, you might also take up an activity such as knitting, which will additionally appease the 6th house energies,
bringing balance to the 12th.
You have to fill both houses with equal amounts of energy. Reorganization of your home and therapies like massages, vacations and yoga will bring positive outcomes as well. The trick is to start these activities long before the transit begins, so that once it hits, you can expect struggles in these areas, but you will most likely have averted a serious health crisis.
Heavy Hitting Transits
As an astrologer, to clients, friends, family and myself, I am often searching for situations in which I can help to warn others of transits approaching. I usually try to keep this simple by first challenging the solar and lunar cycles approaching the person of concern, because these simplistic cycles will show the symptoms for health problems, even if timing isfound in more complicated calculations. Secondly, I examine the heavy hitting planetary aspects approaching and take into account where the person’s thoughts and actions are during the time of the possibility of illness. Most often, if the person is to experience a chronic condition such as cancer, diabetes or the like, there are two planets involved: Saturn and Pluto. Also, if these planets are joined by freedom limiting aspects such as a square to Jupiter, a Pluto opposition, or by the foggy influence of Neptune, I know that the trials may require confinement or periods where little progress is made. During those times, it is very important to find creative ways to reflect this energy. It makes the difference in staying sane enclosed in a tight container rather than allowing yourself to suffocate. The blessing of astrology is that it allows hope because you begin to understand that if you can hang on long enough, the transit will leave, and the situation will experience change.
Being still long enough to listen to everything you have learned so far in life, and where God seems to be leading you, is imperative to finding strength to maintain balance in these difficult times. It could also be noted, that if your find yourself with a major 6thor 12th house theme to your natal chart or by transit, that hard work and care for others is part of your purpose.
Eclipses: Sudden Events That Can Alter Your Vitality
Have a look at the signs in which your 6th and 12th houses fall. Those two signs will become important to you in quickly assessing your health needs and annual situations even years in advance in regard to sudden events manifested by eclipses. You see, eclipses, both solar and lunar, take place in pairs about every six months. The eclipses take place on the axis of a pair of signs and alternates between the two signs for about two years. For example, this year we are experiencing eclipses in Scorpio and Taurus. Every six months we will experience lunar and solar eclipses in each sign that take place within
about two weeks of each other. Eclipse series (by sign) repeat again, every eight-ten years in the same sign. For example, my sixth and twelfth axis falls in Cancer and Capricorn. I have the moon, Saturn, and Mars(in opposition to the moon) located in these signs natally. These planets are also square my natal Pluto in the 8th house. Every 8 years, the eclipses take place in Cancer and Capricorn. Every eight years, I began to notice a near death experience in which I found myself in the
hospital hanging on to life. Over the course of the Capricorn/Caner eclipses in my life, I have experienced 3 major car accidents, a freak dental emergency in which they drained a tooth for a root canal and within hours I had sepsis was
admitted to ICU, and was told I had less than 3 hours to live. The latest eclipse on my health axis, was the lunar eclipse of June 26, 2010 in the midst of the famous Grand Cross. After exercising, I had the beginning of a string of seizures that would last about 30 days with over 100 trips to the emergency room, in which there were times I struggled to speak, could not swallow, and
lost short term memory retrieval. My resting heart rate was at 130-150 for a year. The un-diagnosed experience would continue with damage to my neurological processes of visual perception, scope and definition and adding photophobia
which lasted nearly two years; it is not completely gone. Doctors were baffled and still are. I wrote to a respected astrologer during that time, to get a second opinion. After all, I could barely think straight or see straight from my impairments. The pain was so intense that it literally hurt to think. I quickly realized that I had neglected my own humanity. Right before the eclipse Pluto
had began opposing my moon in a transit that would last nearly three years. While I recognized this before my accident, I just wrote it off as an adjustment that I would experience because we were planning to move to an undesirable location. I also had been through an emotionally traumatic experience that involved my family and struggled with a friendship of many years that was very important to me. In hindsight, during the months before the eclipse, I became so focused on others around me, that I neglected my own humanity. As I began to use what little thinking power I had left, I was reminded of my chart and soon set forth an emergency plan to use my chart as a map of my brain. I realize that sounds a little sci-fi but the Universe was designed in such a way that astrology definitely serves as a blueprint for navigating life.
Saturn was also to conjunct my natal Pluto, in the 8thhouse of death shortly after Pluto’s beginning opposition to my moon, and that June 26th eclipse that had highlighted my natal Mars/Moon opposition with transiting Pluto atop. I survived, through a lot of focus on the higher energies of the 12th house and by opening the avenue of the 3rd/9thaxis. I kept sound tracks going, any area that I could use to retrain my brain, I kept it on. I talked to God; I devoted time to clearing out my demons in the form of ridding myself of traumatic repressions, hidden enemies and bad habits. When I could walk again without my head spinning, I began to volunteer again. While there were obstacles there, it redirected the energy. I began to notice; it was
working! I tried to refocus the energy even without help of a diagnosis to know if it would ever end. I am living proof that this does work. Thank God for his blessings of freewill. He allows us to respond to situations that sometimes take us by storm in the way that we choose, yet within the parameters of His grand choreography of creation.
In my research during this time, I recognized the eclipse pattern and thought back to one set of eclipses, the only set in which I
was minimally affected. Turns out, I worked in a nursing home during that time. I was servicing others who were sick and confined. Still there is more. I began to study others charts of those with 6th and 12th house planets , who were sick or
experienced near death experiences due to illness and quickly realized that the eclipses triggering them were sometimes thwarted in the past through the redirection of 6th/12th house energy in the form of work or service. I confirmed that a pattern was there that would alleviate the negative effects of the 6th and 12thwith work and service.
Another phenomenon, one proved by recent research in science, is the powerful effects of pets on a person’s health. In astrology, the 6th house of health also covers small pets, as human beings have been entrusted to provide care for
these creatures who cannot fend for themselves. I personally believe that pets have saved lives. Suppose you are due for a transit of Saturn or Pluto to the 6th or 12th house. The more pets that you have, the more likely this energy will affect them because they fall into that category for you. In fact, your pet may suddenly get sick and you try desperately to nurse them back to health. Please know that your 6th/12thhouse axis has been activated during that time. I would suggest that anyone with planets in the 6th or 12th house own a pet. I believe that the care of animals will work with the transits to the natal chart by absorbing most of the 6th and 12th house energies. However, it is important to keep in mind that you would also need to protect yourself from any animals that may seem dangerous especially if you have planets in the 6th or 12th.
One lesson learned, was that compassion brings forth the desire to help others if we are able to recognize our own fears. Fear,
a product of the 8th house, can develop into obsession and become the greatest enemy of our own
psyche. The 12th house, which does rule confinement by sickness and hospitals, is linked to the 8th house because they
are both psychologically active areas of our being. If both of these houses become imbalanced, the mind becomes overactive with negative energies which can lead to mental illnesses such as depression. However, these areas are fragile by
definition as our own instincts (gut feelings) and antennae are also housed here. When we experience physically and emotionally traumatic situations, these areas go into defense mode. The 8th becomes the gate keeper while the 12th stores the data in the basement. All of a sudden, fear of repeat events become an active gateway for what we now think
of as a mode of protection but in reality we are feeding confinement (12th house) and isolating
ourselves. We are building walls and thinking patterns that began to preoccupy our daily routines and affect our health as fear also produces a chemical reaction in the body. There are other ways that the 8thand 12th can become imbalanced producing
isolation and confinement: money and secrets, sex and secrets, obsession with taboo thoughts, divorce and hidden enemies, death and spirituality and just about any way you can take subjects from the 8th and combine them with the
12th on the lower octave of their energies in excess. I will add here that sickness activated in the 6th and
12th house can also activate the imbalance of these psychological houses, but I am choosing to
reference prevention methods here so that we use our free will to build healthier relationships with ourselves.
When these areas of the 8th and 12th houses are balanced at the higher octave, a beautiful phenomenon can occur where
intuition is heightened and the connection we have readily available to the spiritual world comes into focus and peacefulness resides there. When we turn to a higher power, these areas of our mind are lit up and immediately opened and
placed into harmony. We elevate trust (8th house) to the spiritual world made available by being alone with God in spirit connection (12thhouse). When the mind is in harmony, our spiritual being is evolving and our physical being enjoys a chance for the chemistry of our bodies to balance and work properly. If facing illness, always check your attitudes towards, trust, sex, resources shared with others, obsessions, control issues, fears and beliefs about death. See if you can define
how these subjects relate to anything that you would be ashamed to share with others. Sigmond Freud always related sexual needs to psychological illnesses, and while Freud’s natal chart shows that he was born prone to certain
afflictions in relation to the 8thhouse, his meanderings and theories related to sex did seem overdone in my opinion, and his 8th
house afflictions offers obsessive thinking in its own area as astrological proof. Yet, I feel that his recognition and fame did draw attention to the fact that 8th house areas do indeed affect the deep psychological areas of the 12th. Carl Jung, did recognize this in Freud and ironically offered an additional case in which the experiences that he had growing up that contributed to his self-learned psychological theories originating on various levels in the 8th house where he instead was not inclined toward sexuality but instead towards the glimpses of the psychic realm of his spiritual being that he often picked up in his search for self-truth in doubting religion and God. These two original thinkers redefined the perception of “being” in my book, where the proof that we
can no longer offer ourselves a level of existence without including unknown factors and phenomenon covered by the connection of mental and spiritual components of existence. Our minds are a powerhouse for our physical and spiritual components. It is the meeting place where we are offered free will for both dimensions. Even as psychology is my chosen field of study, I have often thought that while psychology offers study in the patterns of thinking and existence along the mental sphere, these patterns are only observed with their real roots offered by astrological influences. What a shame it is that belief
systems shun the real map of the psyche provided by astrology. While psychology is so widely accepted, we could be so much more advanced if only the basics of astrology were not accepted as witchery and instead viewed as a science. I suppose some are content to believe in the “magic” of life created by God, but believe He is not capable of designing a universe with energies of time and space that reflect our existence. I am completely baffled there.
Getting back to the subject at hand in this article, the precepts for a healthy life can be found in one’s natal chart. The
personal belief system in which the reader defines his existence can certainly have an impact on how much knowledge in the direction of purpose one can expect to receive. In other words, sometimes we can find ourselves denying our very purpose only to be turned around to find it through sickness. Many times, as stated, those with heavy influences to the 6th and 12thhouse in the natal chart can become sick, yet after facing illness, they experience the hunger to make a difference in others’ lives. In this case, the wounded healer effect takes place, allowing the energies to flow from one to another that relieves the illnesses of both
individuals. This type of physical and mental healing reaches deep and is capable of transforming minds to allow deeply rooted changes to occur and negative cycles to end.
In all of this, where does faith come in? Faith can be found in the 9th house of higher learning; the area that we seek and store knowledge. In this area, long distance communication and travel is found. The internet today is ruled by this area as we are often profoundly educated through other cultures and in our travel experiences. Our world view is touched here and God becomes
greater as we revel in the insignificance of our own ways of thinking and gain greater understanding to the population of the world in comparison to our small plane of thought verses the physical and spiritual universe. Thus, the
9th house is sometimes referred to as the ‘road to God.’ It is the place where we seek the truth of every matter through the attainment of knowledge. Universities are also covered by this influence as a resource for knowledge. Astrology falls in this category as well as a tool for attaining knowledge. At first thought, it seems ironic that faith falls in this area as faith is “the substance of things not seen, but hoped for.” I believe that as our knowledge increases faith also increases. We
begin to understand just how small we are in comparison to God, how minute our human role is and at the same time how miraculous it is. In return, our trust in God grows and our awe becomes our inspiration for faith which is the highest
octave of this energy. The expansion of knowledge, expands our minds; creating a bigger sense of understanding. Everything that we attain by this energy and division of our psyche helps to shape our belief system. It is an imperative area of focus during crisis especially in traumatic injury and TBI as it can redirect and retrain universal energies to manifest differently while retraining
the brain to think differently. If ever you find yourself in a situation involving brain trauma, let your family members know that they can play important roles in your recovery by playing educational tapes, videos about faith, and reading books that relate knowledge. If and when you are able, pick a subject and study. Always introduce something new or challenging so that the energy is directed toward that challenge and the mind can generate new levels of chemistry that manifest physically and spiritually. In Astrology, the 3rd/9thhouse axis is actually “square” to the 6th/12th axis, meaning that the two do not always
work easily together. Yet, by activating the axis of the mind to promote growth, even with challenges we are able to activate the body’s sensory system towards healing.
How can you get started in applying this method to your life and health?
If you know the basic principles of astrology, it is easy to use this balancing system for a healthier life. You can start by
obtaining a copy of your natal chart and taking note of the planets/signs and degrees within the houses. Take note of any planets especially Pluto, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune or the Sun and Moon located within the 6th or 12th houses and various aspects to the planets located in the houses such as a conjunction, square, or opposition. If you do find planets in this area, you may want to visit a professional astrologer to inquire about coming transits to these zones, and to explain various health issues that you may be susceptible to throughout life. You should also take note that 6th and 12th house placements are proof that you have been called in this life to help others suffering or you will learn a great deal through hard work and suffering yourself.
In certain years, eclipses will touch these points and make you more vulnerable to illness than at other times. Transits of Pluto
and Saturn to the 6th and 12th house are particularly vulnerable times that can truly change your life without preparation. There are more signatures of illness and disease within a chart, so you may want to consider consulting a medical astrologer if you are already dealing with illness.(I also offer a transit outlook for Discovering Physical Balance) Finally, when you have discovered the times that heavy transits may affect you, it is important to plan ahead and focus in advance of the dates approaching to immerse yourself in service for others, to take special care of pets, to balance meditation and prayer with physical exertion and to seek health advice from a medical professional long before the transit hits.
